I’m sending this a little later than usual after attending Open Door Cinema Club’s screening of The Thing last night - an excellent evening that included a quiz, raffle, short film, and an introduction from Charlie Adlard before the main feature.

Cooper Green Pooks spotlight Vinterior on Wyle Cop, the independent gift shop that's been celebrating Shrewsbury's character for six years.

Owner Gaynor has created a treasure trove of locally inspired art, prints, and keepsakes - from Shrewsbury skyline pieces to exclusive greeting cards.

The shop also houses SY Trophies, providing engraving and awards for local clubs and events. A perfect example of the independent spirit thriving.

In collaboration with Cooper Green Pooks.

The Secret Artist Sale 2025 has raised an incredible £12,860 for The Hive, Grinshill Animal Rescue, and Alzheimer's Society.

Around 200 original artworks sold at The Soden Collection on Wyle Cop, with customers queuing overnight for the third edition of this innovative event.

Since launching, the sale has now raised nearly £35,000 for charity. Organisers have confirmed it will return in 2027.

Open Door Cinema Club is adding two more films to their 2025 lineup at The Hive. Shaun of the Dead arrives on November 23 - Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's beloved zom-com that perfectly blends British humour with zombie horror.

Then on December 14, they're bringing festive cheer with The Muppet Christmas Carol.

Following their successful launch screenings, the club is also introducing a membership scheme offering entry to five films for £20. Details here.

Studio 67 welcomes Jane Beesley as their featured artist of the month. The Yorkshire-born painter, who began her practice in 2020, won the Belle Vue Arts Festival/Soden competition in 2021.

Her atmospheric, semi-abstracted landscapes are collected nationally and internationally, and are now on display at the Shrewsbury gallery.

Hmmm Squad is Shrewsbury's eclectic speaker community exploring everything from the fascinating to the frankly bizarre. On Tuesday 28th October (7pm for 7:30pm start at The Exchange), Pete shares his unique 2024 journey - a year spent pursuing 'Interesting Things' across the country while facing life changes and mortality head-on. Expect stories of the new, the odd, and the unexpected.

Looking ahead, November brings Simon Nightingale discussing epistemology and young earth creationism, while January 2026 sees Lucy Shortt return for a deeper dive into neurodiversity.

Each session works standalone, so newcomers are always welcome to this diverse speaking series.
