This week marks 52 weeks of writing the Shrewsbury Scoop: a whole year of Sunday (or Monday) mornings spent sharing what’s happening around town.

It’s been amazing to see over 4,000 readers join in to discover local events, independent businesses, and the people who make Shrewsbury special.

My hope has always been that the Scoop helps support local independents, bring more people together, and make it easier to find something great to do each week.

Vintage fashion enthusiasts have a new destination as Griffs opened its first shop at 64 Wyle Cop on yesterday on 9th November.

The store offers curated vintage sportswear from Nike, Adidas and Reebok, alongside high-end labels such as Ralph Lauren and YSL. Shoppers can browse hoodies, knitwear, t-shirts, polos and football gear in the heart of Wyle Cop.

Gateway Gallery volunteers are busy preparing for the Salopian Open exhibition, running from Friday 14th November 2025 until Monday 5th January 2026, with the preview on 14th November.

The bi-annual competition welcomes work in all media and offers prizes including a solo show at the gallery. The volunteer-run venue operates as part of Shrewsbury & District Arts Association, supporting Shropshire's growing creative community.

A Shrewsbury nine-year-old has been brightening the days of ambulance workers with handmade treat bags since he was just five years old. Finley-Jay Stubbs fills each bag with sweets, chocolate, biscuits and handwritten cards, giving them to emergency crews across Shropshire to help them through their demanding shifts.

His thoughtful gesture has earned him a Mayor's Award and a highly commended BBC Make A Difference Award for Young Hero 2025. Visiting the ambulance crews has created meaningful opportunities for Finley-Jay to connect with people and bring joy to those who help our community every day.
