Hi everyone, this is the 58th consecutive week of Shrewsbury Scoop, and I'm so grateful for your support. For over a year, I've written this free newsletter every Sunday to help you discover what's on and support our brilliant local businesses and community.

Thank you to everyone who reads, shares, and takes the time to reply or leave lovely comments on the polls – it’s much appreciated.

With being busy this Christmas and New Year, and writing the newsletter on my own, I won't have time to write next week's edition. I may also take the following week off to recharge.

Shrewsbury's beloved independent toy shop, The Toy Box, has moved into a larger premises on High Street after outgrowing its previous location.

Founded by grandmother Vonny, the shop specialises in timeless, quality toys that celebrate traditional play beyond passing trends.

After three successful years in their original space, owner Vonny and shop manager Sarah have now settled into their dream location at 45 High Street, where they continue to delight families with expert toy recommendations and a carefully curated selection.

Shrewsbury's Night Bus service will continue operating until the end of March 2026, following strong passenger numbers during its initial trial period.

The late-night service, which runs Wednesday to Saturday on routes N11, N25 and N27, has already carried more than 1,000 passengers since launching in November.

Funded by West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion's Community Fund, the buses aim to support safe travel for workers, residents and visitors enjoying the town's evening economy.

Partners are now gathering feedback through an online survey to help shape potential future services, with hopes for a longer Phase 3 trial later in the year.

Shrewsbury has retained its title as Britain's top high street for the second consecutive year, according to The Telegraph's 2025 rankings.

The newspaper's travel experts praised the town's independent shops, historic architecture and distinctive character, singling out Wyle Cop as home to the longest continuous run of independent retailers in the country.

The accolade comes at a challenging time for UK high streets, making Shrewsbury's continued success all the more remarkable and reinforcing its reputation as one of the nation's best shopping destinations.

A screening of the classic British film The Red Shoes, which follows a young ballerina caught between personal relationships and artistic ambition. Known for its striking visuals and lasting influence, the film is presented by Shrewsbury Film Society at The Hive.
