A car park between Hills Lane and Barker Street was once home to a network of timber-framed cottages that were demolished during the 1930s town improvement scheme. Local estate agents Cooper Green Pooks have shared a fascinating look at what stood there before and why it was cleared.

The Love Spoon Bakery on Longden Coleham is collecting love letters from the community for a Valentine's Day window installation. They’re asking people to write about who or what they love, whether it's a person, a pet, a cherished memory, or a quiet moment.

Letters can be signed or anonymous, long or short, and will be displayed as a growing collection in the bakery window. A few contributors will be chosen to win cupcakes on Valentine's Day. Drop yours off in person or post to 118 Longden Coleham, SY3 7DU. Details here:

Soil ecologist Professor Simon Jeffery explores the hidden world beneath our feet, revealing how soil organisms play a vital role in ecosystems and food production. Using macrophotography and video, the talk brings soil to life and looks at why it matters more than we might think, from local landscapes to global environmental challenges.

Pedro Almodóvar’s 2016 Spanish drama follows a mother reflecting on the events that led to her estrangement from her daughter.
