Shrewsbury has a new shop that's gone to the dogs - and that's exactly the point.
Diggidy Dogs opened its doors on Shoplatch at the start of December, bringing a carefully curated selection of products for pups and their people. The shop held its official launch event on Saturday 6th December, complete with goody bags for the first 30 customers and a festive atmosphere.
A Labour of Love
Behind the venture is Gwen, a self-described "dedicated and slightly besotted dog lover" whose current dog, Frida, is her top priority. The pair compete in agility together, spending most weekends at competitions or training sessions. That hands-on experience has shaped the entire shop.
"I'm lucky enough to be able to open a shop where I get to source beautiful and fun products for dogs and dog lovers, and I get to meet all the lovely customers and their humans," she explains.
What's on the Shelves
The range at Diggidy Dogs is impressively varied. You'll find spa treatments sitting alongside sparkly party outfits, specialised training equipment next to doggy toothpaste, and safety belts beside reflective coats.
One of the standout offerings is the pawtisserie selection from Life of Riley, based in Market Drayton. Think cannoli, doughnuts, truffles, and bakewell tarts - all specially made for four-legged customers.
The shop also stocks gear for specific dog sports and activities: cannicross, scentwork, agility, hoopers, and obedience training. Whether your dog is a weekend athlete or a casual walker, there's something to suit.
"Pretty much everything your dog needs, plus lots of things you didn't know they needed," is how Gwen describes the range.
For Dog Lovers Too
It's not just about the dogs themselves. Diggidy Dogs carries a selection of items for the humans who love them, including breed-specific socks, mugs, greetings cards, games to play with your dog, and clothing.
"So whether someone wants to treat the dog lover in their life, or their dog, we should have it covered," she says.
Looking Ahead
The shop has plans to expand its services in the new year, with a specialised harness fitting service launching soon. An online store is also in the works, set to go live on 1st March.
The owner is keen for Diggidy Dogs to become more than just a shop. "We want Diggidy Dogs to be part of a community, where we share useful information and contacts," she explains.

With the festive season in full swing, the shop is stocked with Christmas-themed items, charity cards, and a doggy lucky dip in aid of local rescue centres. It's a chance to pick up something special while supporting a local business.
