The countdown is on for one of Shrewsbury's most unusual New Year's Eve celebrations, as the Midnight Run returns to the Quarry after a year away.
This inclusive running event welcomes participants of all abilities and ages to kick off 2025 in style, with three distance options available: 2.5K, 5K, or 10K. Whether you're a seasoned runner or simply looking for an alternative to traditional New Year's Eve festivities, the event promises a memorable start to the new year.
A Unique Way to Celebrate
The run will begin at the stroke of midnight, accompanied by the chimes of St. Chad's Church bells, creating an atmospheric start as runners set off through the beautiful surroundings of the Quarry.
"We believe this is the only midnight New Year's Eve run in the country, and certainly the only one in Shropshire. It's a fun and unique way to start the new year, and a great alternative to the usual New Year's Eve celebrations."
Peter Metcalfe, event organiser
The event is designed to be as inclusive as possible. Dogs and prams are welcome, and children can take part when accompanied by an adult. Organisers are encouraging participants to embrace the festive spirit by dressing up in Christmas lights and sparkly outfits.
Kickstart 2025 Feeling Energised
For those seeking something different from the traditional New Year's Eve party, this could be the perfect option.
"We welcome all age groups and abilities, and encourage anyone looking for something different to join us. It's a fantastic way to kickstart the new year feeling healthy and energised!"
Peter Metcalfe
The event offers runners the chance to start the year as they mean to go on, combining exercise, community spirit, and a touch of festive fun in one of Shrewsbury's most loved green spaces.
